Werther - Jules Massenet

Werther is a poignant tale of unfulfilled love, longing, and emotional sacrifice.

The sensitive young poet Werther falls deeply in love with Charlotte. Although she returns his affection, Charlotte remains faithful to a promise she made to her late mother and marries Albert, a kind and honorable man.

Unable to overcome his feelings, Werther withdraws into loneliness and despair. As the seasons pass, the bond between Werther and Charlotte grows stronger, but their love remains impossible. Torn between duty and passion, Charlotte realizes her true feelings only when it is too late.

Overwhelmed by hopelessness, Werther takes his own life. Charlotte rushes to his side, and in their final moments together, they confess the love they could never fully share. Werther dies in her arms, leaving behind one of opera's most moving and tragic endings.
