Tosca - Giacomo Puccini

Set in Rome during a time of political unrest, Tosca is a gripping tale of love, jealousy, tyranny, and sacrifice.

Floria Tosca, a celebrated opera singer, is deeply in love with the painter Mario Cavaradossi. When Mario helps a political prisoner escape, the ruthless Chief of Police, Baron Scarpia, arrests him. Determined to capture the fugitive, Scarpia exploits Tosca's love for Mario, offering to spare his life only if she submits to his demands.

Driven to desperation, Tosca appears to accept Scarpia's bargain but secretly kills him to save herself and the man she loves. Believing Scarpia's promise that Mario's execution will only be a mock execution, she rushes to meet him. Instead, the firing squad carries out a real execution, and Mario dies in her arms.

As Scarpia's men close in to arrest her, Tosca chooses freedom over capture. She throws herself from the walls of Castel Sant'Angelo, bringing the tragic story to its devastating conclusion.
