Norma - Vincenzo Bellini

Norma is a powerful tragedy of love, betrayal, forgiveness, and self-sacrifice.

In ancient Gaul, Norma, the High Priestess of the Druids, has secretly broken her sacred vows by falling in love with the Roman proconsul Pollione. Together they have two children, but Pollione has grown tired of Norma and fallen in love with the young priestess Adalgisa.

When Norma discovers the betrayal, she is consumed by grief and fury. At first, she considers taking revenge, but Adalgisa's honesty and compassion lead the two women to form an unexpected bond. Realizing the suffering her own choices have caused, Norma resolves to accept responsibility.

Before her people, she publicly confesses that she has broken her vows and condemns herself to death. Deeply moved by her courage and unwavering love, Pollione experiences a profound change of heart. He chooses to join Norma on the funeral pyre, and together they face death, united at last.
