Luisa Miller - Giuseppe Verdi

Luisa Miller is a deeply moving tragedy of love, betrayal, and sacrifice.

Luisa, the daughter of a humble retired soldier, is deeply in love with Rodolfo, unaware that he is the son of the powerful Count Walter. Their happiness is threatened by social inequality and political ambition, as the Count intends for Rodolfo to marry the wealthy Duchess Federica.

To separate the lovers, Count Walter and his scheming steward Wurm force Luisa to write a false letter declaring her love for another man. Believing he has been betrayed, Rodolfo is consumed by jealousy and despair.

In a tragic final act, Rodolfo poisons both himself and Luisa before learning the truth. As they die together, Luisa forgives him, while the conspiracy behind their suffering is finally revealed.

Luisa Miller is one of Verdi's most emotionally powerful operas, portraying the conflict between true love and ruthless ambition. With its passionate music and profound psychological depth, the opera explores family loyalty, injustice, forgiveness, and the devastating consequences of manipulation, making it one of Verdi's most moving early masterpieces.
