La fille du régiment (The Daughter of the Regiment) is a delightful comedy of love, loyalty, and self-discovery.
Marie, an orphan, has been raised by an entire French regiment, whose soldiers lovingly regard her as their daughter. Independent, spirited, and devoted to her military family, her life changes when she falls in love with Tonio, a young Tyrolean.
To prove his devotion, Tonio enlists in the regiment. However, their happiness is interrupted when the Marquise of Berkenfield reveals that Marie is of noble birth and insists she leave her military life behind to become a refined young lady.
Despite the expectations of high society and an arranged marriage, Marie remains true to her heart. In the end, the Marquise recognizes the sincerity of the young couple's love and gives her blessing, allowing Marie and Tonio to begin their life together.
