Il barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) is one of opera's greatest comedies, filled with wit, romance, disguises, and clever intrigue.
Count Almaviva has fallen deeply in love with the beautiful Rosina, who is kept under the strict watch of her guardian, Dr. Bartolo. Determined to marry Rosina himself, Bartolo prevents anyone from approaching her, making escape seem impossible.
The resourceful barber Figaro comes to Almaviva's aid. Famous for his intelligence and endless ingenuity, Figaro devises a series of daring disguises and amusing schemes to help the Count gain access to Rosina. Pretending to be a poor student, a drunken soldier, and even a music teacher, Almaviva repeatedly outwits Bartolo while winning Rosina's trust and affection.
After a whirlwind of comic misunderstandings, secret messages, and hilarious deceptions, Bartolo's plans are finally defeated. Almaviva reveals his true identity, and he and Rosina are joyfully united in marriage, while Figaro's cleverness triumphs over greed and jealousy.
