The Bartered Bride - Bedřich Smetana

The Bartered Bride is a delightful comedy of love, misunderstanding, and clever deception.

In a Czech village, Mařenka and Jeník are deeply in love and dream of marrying. Their happiness is threatened when Mařenka's parents, unaware of the lovers' secret, arrange her marriage to Vašek, the shy and awkward son of a wealthy marriage broker.

To everyone's surprise, Jeník appears to give up Mařenka in exchange for money, agreeing that she may marry only "the son of Micha." His apparent betrayal shocks the village, but Jeník has carefully devised a clever plan.

It is finally revealed that Jeník is actually Micha's long-lost elder son. As a result, he himself is the true "son of Micha," making the marriage agreement work in his favor. The deception is exposed, Vašek is freed from the unwanted marriage, and Mařenka and Jeník are joyfully reunited.
