Set in the
theatrical world of 18th-century Paris, *Adriana Lecouvreur* tells the
tragic story of a celebrated actress whose life begins to mirror the
drama she performs on stage.
Adriana, a renowned star of the
Comédie-Française, falls deeply in love with Maurizio, a nobleman and
soldier. Unbeknownst to her, he is already entangled with the powerful
and jealous Princess de Bouillon. What begins as a passionate romance
soon turns into a dangerous rivalry between two women from entirely
different worlds: one of art and sincerity, the other of power and
intrigue.
As jealousy intensifies, the Princess plots revenge. In
a cruel and calculated act, she sends Adriana a bouquet of poisoned
violets. Adriana, already weakened and heartbroken by betrayal, succumbs
to the poison. In her final moments, she drifts between reality and the
stage, reciting lines as if performing one last role before dying in
Maurizio’s arms.
Essence:
This opera is a blend of "love,
jealousy, and theatrical Illusion", where the boundary between stage and
reality dissolves. Adriana’s fate is not only shaped by passion, but by
the very art she lives for—making her final tragedy as poetic as it is
devastating.
