Mozarthaus Vienna
Mozarthaus in Vienna, located at Domgasse 5, is the only surviving residence of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, where he lived with his family from 1784 to 1787, producing iconic works like the opera "Le Nozze di Figaro". The building, a 17th-century house redeveloped in 1716, was once known as the Camesina House. After a Nazi-era opening in 1941 and transfer to the Vienna Museum in 1945, it was fully renovated for the Mozart Year 2006 and now houses a permanent exhibition about the compose.
Mozarthaus as a Museum
1941: The former rooms were opened to the public as a museum during "Imperial German Mozart Week," an event of the Nazi regime celebrating Mozart as a "typically German" composer.
1945: The Vienna Museum took over the management of the exhibition.
2004-2006: The City of Vienna's Wien Holding company undertook a complete renovation and redesign of the building, which was completed for the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth in 2006.
